  Children’s Grief Support Facilitator Training – June 15 & 16, 2018

The BC Bereavement Helpline, in partnership with the Abbotsford Hospice Society, is hosting a two-day training session for individuals and professionals who wish to be trained to run an 8-week children’s grief group. This is sure to be a fun and interactive workshop and will hopefully provide you with some ideas and tools for you to use when helping support children dealing with grief and loss.

Date: June 15th and 16th, 2018
Location: Abbotsford Hospice Society (pay parking nearby)
Cost: $250 per person ($200 early bird rate expires on May 15th)

  Loss Due to Overdose Support Group (Surrey)

The Surrey Hospice Society is offering an overdose support group in response to the current crisis in BC. This support group is tailored for those who have lost a loved one to overdose. The 6 week group will be facilitated by registered clinical counselors.

There will be circle sharing, grief education, ceremony, therapeutic rituals, and expressive arts.

Date: Wednesdays, May 23rd – June 27th from 6-8pm

  Nature’s Amble – Wednesday Walking Group

The Surrey Hospice is facilitating a walking group that is open to those who are grieving the death of a significant person in their life.

Date: Wednesdays May 16 – June 20, 10am-12pm PM

Location: Meet at Greem Timbers Park (parking lot off 100 Ave. between 144th and 148th streets)

  Bereavement Support at Burnaby Hospice Society

The Burnaby Hospice Society offers support for residents of Burnaby who are experiencing grief and loss – your loved one does not have to be registered within the Burnaby Palliative Care Program. Click on their Bereavement Support Page for all details.

Individual Counselling
Their registered clinical counselor provides short term individual counselling to anyone within 2 years of loss.

Surviving the Loss of a Love

This once a month (first Friday of the month) informal support circle is for adults who are looking for a less formal grief support group following the loss of a spouse or life partner.

Healing Connections

This once a month (first Tuesday of the month) informal support circle is for adults who are looking for a less formal grief support group with people like themselves who must continue to make the many difficult adjustments to life following the loss of a loved one.

*Initial registration is required for all groups.   A minimum 3 month waiting period, after the loss of a loved one is required for all groups.  Please call the Bereavement Coordinator at 604-520-5024 or email: to inquire about groups.

  Bereavement Day – May 27th – Honour Your Loved One

Please join us for a service of remembrance open to anyone commemorating the loss of a loved one. Ceremony includes a special service , the planting of heart-shaped memory seeds in a special honorary garden and the releasing of doves in the name of your loved one. The service and seeds are free and is welcome to anyone who wishes to attend.

We request a $30 minimum donation to reserve a dove. Reservations are due May 18.

  Lower Mainland Grief Recovery Society – Support Groups

LMGRS Grief Support Group Programs are set up with a three-pronged approach:

  • To receive practical information and tools to help you cope with your loss.
  • A chance to connect with others who are also struggling and who ‘get it’.
  • A process-oriented approach that includes week-to-week practices (Heart-work) to help you with your healing journey.

The programs are non-religious and open to those who have experienced the death of a significant person.

The fee for the program is $150.00 which includes all your materials and light refreshments.

An Intake/Registration Process is required in order to attend one of the Grief Support Group Programs.

  2018 Grief Education Workshop (GEW/Professional Development)

This workshop is designed for those who want to develop a better understanding of how to help people who are dealing with loss and grief. It may be of special benefit to professionals who work in healthcare, financial services, insurance, law, HR/EAP and college/university counselling departments, but anyone with an interest in this area/topic is welcome.

We invite you to attend our Annual Event / AGM which will present: The Vancouver Threshold Choir 
The Threshold Choir is a group of women who bring comfort and compassion through song to those at the thresholds of living and dying. In groups of two to four they sing gentle songs from a variety of traditions to soothe, comfort and uplift. They sing, when invited, in private homes, hospices, care facilities and hospitals.

  Kids Grieve too – Children’s Grief Groups

Delta Hospice Society is pleased to offer Kids Grieve Too – bereavement groups to support children ages 7-12. These groups apply expressive arts and play therapy to reduce anxiety and anger, promote healthy expression of difficult emotions, increase understanding of grief and loss, and provide support through connection with others.

  Family Services of the North Shore – Complementary Restorative Yoga

Family Services of the North Shore is offering complementary Restorative Yoga.

Restorative Yoga is the practice of deep relaxation, stillness and peace. It is for the times when you feel weak, fatigued or stressed from your daily activities. You can practice the poses when ill or recovering from illness or injury.

  Vancouver Hospice Society Program

The Vancouver Hospice Society offers two different kinds of grief support groups for adults in the Vancouver area who are grieving the loss of a loved one:

  • Adult Bereavement Support Group: has two sessions, yearly. This group meets in the hospice family room at 4615 Granville street. It is facilitated by a clinical counsellor and is free of charge. To register please call 604-737-7305 ext. 216.
  • Healing Touch for Bereavement: Healing touch is a relaxation therapy offered by trained volunteers which involves light touch in aid of energy flow in the body. Sessions are offered on Thursday afternoons at 4615 Granville street. To book an appointment, please call 604-737-7305. Please be sure to state that you are new to Healing Touch. Appointments are free of charge but donations to VHS are always welcome as the VHS Hospice and its activities are 100% charitably funded.
