  Lower Mainland Grief Recovery Society – Support Groups

LMGRS Grief Support Group Programs are set up with a three-pronged approach:

  • To receive practical information and tools to help you cope with your loss.
  • A chance to connect with others who are also struggling and who ‘get it’.
  • A process-oriented approach that includes week-to-week practices (Heart-work) to help you with your healing journey.

The programs are non-religious and open to those who have experienced the death of a significant person.

The fee for the program is $150.00 which includes all your materials and light refreshments.

An Intake/Registration Process is required in order to attend one of the Grief Support Group Programs.

  Lightening The Loss: A 10 Week Online Grief Support Workshop

Hosted by grief coach Rachel Ricketts of loss&found, this 10-week, self-guided grief support e-course can help you minimize the pain caused by loss + grief and begin the transition into joy.

You’ll get structured guidance, tools and resources for helping you best heal your heart – including a live Q+A call, online yin yoga class and guided meditation and peer support from other folks in the program – all from the comfort of your own home. This is the perfect support to help you kick off 2018.

  Homicide Grief Support Group: Vancouver

The BC Bereavement Helpline will be hosting an 8-week support group for individuals bereaved by homicide.

Being with others who have experienced a similar loss has proven to break isolation and create long-term networks of support. Support groups provide a safe, non-judgemental, compassionate environment for family and friends to share their stories and learn essential grief and mourning survival tools to integrate into their daily lives.

When: Every Tuesday, April 3 – May 22, 2018

  Traumatic Loss Facilitator Training: Vancouver – Feb. 23-24, 2018

The BC Bereavement Helpline is hosting a two-day training session for individuals and professionals who wish to be trained to run an eight week traumatic death (including homicide and suicide) grief support group. This training will build upon the individual’s pre-existing skill-set and introduce topics specific to traumatic loss.

Early bird cost is $250 until January 31 (Regular cost will be $300 on February 1st). Full payment reserves your space in the program and can be made via cheque (made out to the BC Bereavement Helpline), E-transfer ( or by credit card via phone or PayPal.

  Grief Support Group – North Vancouver

Have you been touched by the recent death of someone you love?

Find support and healing in a safe and caring environment with others who have also experienced loss. Sessions may include guided meditation, gentle touch and healing touch for relaxation and stress relief.

  Burnaby Hospice Society – Support Groups

Burnaby Hospice Society offers many options for grief support:

A registered clinical counsellor provides short term individual counselling to anyone within 2 years of loss. Services are designed to meet the individual’s specific needs. Referrals to specialized professionals are available if further support is needed.

Healing Journeys – walking groups for the bereaved.

  • Every Monday & Saturday (10am) at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course
  • Every Wednesday (10am) at Deer Lake Park


Healing Connections – This once a month (First Tuesday of the month) informal support circle is for adults who are looking for a less formal grief support group with people like themselves who must continue to make the many difficult adjustments to life following the loss of a loved one.

  Rain Down Words … Grief & Loss Writing Workshops

  Anticipatory Grief Facilitator Training: Maple Ridge – Feb. 17 & 24, 2018

We invite you to attend this experiential training that will provide you the opportunity to learn how to co-facilitate an Anticipatory Grief Circle of Support Drop-in Group in your community.

This grant is provided by the BC Centre for Palliative Care, a provincial organization that supports non-profit organizations who strive to improve the everday experiences for people affected by serious illness or who are nearing end of life.

  Bereavement Walking Program/Vancouver

BCBH member Vancouver Hospice Society is offering a bereavement walking program for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Gather with others who are experiencing grief to walk, talk, and offer support while receiving fresh air and exercise.

When: 8 week sessions are held in the Spring, Fall & Winter on Wednesday or Saturday mornings.

Where: the Museum of Vancouver, 1100 Chestnut St. (in front of the crab sculpture).

Cost: no charge, but registration is required

  Vancouver Hospice Society Program

The Vancouver Hospice Society offers two different kinds of grief support groups for adults in the Vancouver area who are grieving the loss of a loved one:

  • Adult Bereavement Support Group: has two sessions, yearly. This group meets in the hospice family room at 4615 Granville street. It is facilitated by a clinical counsellor and is free of charge. To register please call 604-737-7305 ext. 216.
  • Healing Touch for Bereavement: Healing touch is a relaxation therapy offered by trained volunteers which involves light touch in aid of energy flow in the body. Sessions are offered on Thursday afternoons at 4615 Granville street. To book an appointment, please call 604-737-7305. Please be sure to state that you are new to Healing Touch. Appointments are free of charge but donations to VHS are always welcome as the VHS Hospice and its activities are 100% charitably funded.
